REVIEW: FREE Music Together Trial Class @ EC’s Olenka School of Music + Whole Foods for Lunch

Music Doodle

Last Saturday was a rainy, cold day in HoCo. Our initial Saturday plan was to walk Centennial Park. Luckily we had a backup rain plan – a free Music Together trial class and lunch at Whole Foods.

I first learned of Music Together through my Healthy Families new moms support group. A teacher from Music Together in Ellicott City/Columbia visited our group. Little H loved the songs, egg rattles, and scarves used throughout the session. I had remembered the teacher saying free trial classes were available. I was eager to get daddy to experience Music Together. I signed us up.

The trial class started at 10:30 am in Ellicott City at the Olenka School of Music and lasted about 40 minutes. A few other families participated. The same props were used and everyone in the class seemed to have a great time. Daddy loved interacting in a musical way with little H and seeing how engaged our little guy could be. The price could not be right – FREE.

For the long term, we decided to hold on registering little H. Infant classes are available and the school is willing to work with new parents to form infant groups.  We feel our little man will get more from the class after he celebrates his first birthday. Sharon, the teacher, could not have been nicer and more professional. You can clearly tell she enjoys her career and loves spreading the power of music to HoCo children.

We made the quick 15-minute drive over to Whole Foods for lunch. Even on a rainy afternoon, the store was hopping. Whole Foods is always good. Never had a bad experience at any Whole Foods yet. We love sitting by a window that overlooks the lake.

Sign-up for a trial Music Together class on the Olenka home page if you are interested in learning more. And, of course, visit the new Columbia Whole Foods if you haven’t already. This Sunday might be the perfect day for you and the family to swing by. The store is hosting a fall festival “Pumpkins, Apples, Pie – Oh My!” This free event will take place from 10 am – 2 pm. Kids can enjoy free pumpkin painting and “make your own trail mix.” Also, pick up a cup of free hot apple cider! The Downtown Columbia Partnership is hosting their Discover Downtown Festival and 5K next door. Be sure to stop by for a day of Columbia filled fun.

Have you been to a Music Together class? The new Whole Foods? What other HoCo activities invite parents to sign up for free trials?

Make it a great HoCo weekend.

Oh yay! I heart music and definitely support the efforts to keep music in education curriculums yet alone extra curricular activities like this. I need to get us on the list for the next free trial. And keep me posted if/when you’re thinking of signing up Mr. H next year – maybe we can do it together 🙂
